Description

The Junin diver ( Podiceps taczanowskii ),also called Junin's grebe or Peruvian grebe is a species of podicipediformes bird of the Podicipedidae family.It inhabits Lake Junín located in the central highlands of Peru and is in critical danger of extinction due to the contamination of the lake.It has a fine pointed tip,reddish eyes and gray legs.Its back is dark gray and white chest.It feeds on fish that it catches by diving into the water.This bird lost its ability to fly by adapting to the aquatic environment.Its population is threatened by the pollution of Lake Junín and the inability to adapt to another habitat.
