Description

The parakeet Santa Marta ( Santa Marta Parakeet Todd,1913 ) is a bird of the family of Psittacidae. This species, similar to the parakeet belly-crimson but different in color,is completely green, with a red band on the chest and the reduced ventral shield;with size around 25 cm;It has red hues also on the shoulder,on the undertail, under the wing, along with a little yellow, and in the periauricular area.It has a very limited range,in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta in Colombia, where the primary forest lives between 1800 and 2800 meters. The cultivation of marijuana and cocaine first, the herbicides to destroy the drug then, has reduced its habitat to about 15% of what was a few years ago bringing the species to the brink of extinction: in nature there are no more of 200 copies.
