Description

Chlorophanes spiza,popularly known as saí -verde,saí-toucan or tem-tem,is a passerine bird of the Thraupidae family.The green leaves measure about 14 cm in length and weigh,on average,17 grams.It has a relatively broad beak,with a light yellow jaw.It has a pronounced sexual dimorphism : the males are blue-green,with a notable black mask;the females are green,with a paler coloration on the lower parts.It lives in the woods,in crowns,orchards and flowering trees.It is less dependent on nectar than other species of leaves,with 60% of its food being composed of fruits,20% of nectar and 15% of insects.
