Description

The Albinegra tanager (Conothraupis speculigera) is a species of passerine bird of the Thraupidae family found in Bolivia,Ecuador,Peru and the Brazilian state of Acre.The only other member of its genus is the recently rediscovered Conothraupis mesoleuca.It has a total length of 16 cm.(6 ½ inches) and weighs 23 to 28 g.(0.8 to 1 oz).The male is black with a gray haunch,white on its lower parts and a white speculum on the wings.It is peak is longer than the superficially similar Sporophila luctuosa and lacks black flanks and white chalk of the beak in relation to Conothraupis mesoleuca.The female is olive green with slight spots,yellowish on the lower parts.Both sexes have a reddish iris and a grayish beak.The song of the males is distinctive,like the ictéridos,of high and strong timbre.
