(Henicopernis infuscatus)
The black pecker measures 48-52 cm in length and has a wingspan of 110-115 cm.It has numerous affinities with the long-tailed pecker ( Henicopernis longicauda ),endemic to New Guinea,from which it differs,as well as for the color of the plumage,for the smaller size and the shorter tail;also has head and beaksmaller. Of predominantly black color on the back and blackish on the belly,it has only a little white on the vertex and on the nape,of the cream areas on the throat and suede color on the sides and on the lower part of the abdomen,especially on the shoes and on the cover of the undertail.;two very evident gray-brown bands are present on the secondary ones,and another three,slightly wider,on the tail.The iris is yellow.The wax and most of the beak are yellowish.The legs are bluish-white.The sexes are similar
