Trans-Pecos Amaranth

Description

Amaranthus obcordatus is a species in the genus Amaranthus which contains approximately 112 to 193 species and belongs to the family of the Amaranthaceae (Amaranth Family). The plants are comparatively long-lived and reach heights of 10 to 50 centimetres. Amaranthus obcordatus is deciduous. The simple leaves are alternate. They are lanceolate, entire and petiolate. Amaranthus obcordatus produces flowers that are arranged in spikes from July to September. Amaranthus obcordatus is native to North Mexico, Arizona and Texas. The plants prefer a sunny situation on moist soil. The substrate should be sandy-loamy, gritty-loamy or sandy clay soil.
