Description

Ceropegia nilotica is a plant species of the genus candlestick flowers ( Ceropegia ) from the subfamily of milkweed plants ( Asclepiadoideae ). Ceropegia nilotica has perennial, twining and climbing stems that can grow up to 2 m long. They measure about 2 to 5 mm in diameter. The roots are fleshy and thickened. The simple true leaves are slightly succulent, measuring 1.5 to 10 cm × 0.6 to 3 cm. The petioles are 15 mm long. The oblong-lanceolate or broadly lanceolate leaf blade has wavy or serrated edges. The stalked inflorescence has one or more flowers; however, only one flower is open at a time. The stems between 2 and 60 mm long. The fused petals are off-white to cream with dense red spots. The crown is up to 6 centimeters long and slightly curved. The crown cauldron is 10 to 14 mm long and 5 to 9 mm in diameter. It is typically constricted slightly above the middle. The funnel-shaped corolla tube is curved and expands very slowly at first, then much faster further up. The corolla lobes are triangular to lanceolate and fused at the tips. The edges are folded and hairy along the midrib. They are banded white, green and dark red. There are only a few kings of synonyms for this art: Ceropegia constricta N.E.Brown, Ceropegia mozambicensis Schlechter, Ceropegia gemmifera K.Schumann, Ceropegia boussingaultifolia Dinter, Ceropegia gossweileri S.Moore, Ceropegia plicata E.A.Bruce, Ceropegia. ulugurensis Werdermann, Ceropegia grandis E.A.Bruce, Ceropegia decumbens P.ROBally.
