Description

Hoya calycina is a species of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) in the subfamily of the seedweed family (Asclepiadoideae). It is native to Indonesia ( Irian Jaya ) and Papua New Guinea. Hoya calycina makes climbing, winding, several meters long shoot axles , which lignify at their base and branch little. The bald, but also sparsely hairy stem axes have a diameter of up to about 6 millimeters and become corky in old age. The elliptical to oval, slightly pointed leaves are quite large with 16 to 20 centimeters long and 9 centimeters wide. The upper side is bare or with only a few fluffy hairs, the underside felty to semisweet (or bald in the ssp. Glabrifolia ). They sit on one to three cm long stems, which have a diameter of 1.5 to 3.5 millimeters.
