Description

It is a palm of average size that regularly reaches the 16 meters of height whose trunk goes from 2 to 4 m ; said trunk is covered by the leaf sheaths of dead leaves, which give it the appearance of scales. It has pinnate leaves up to 8 m long in dark green. The rachis , orange, is grooved in the upper part and round in the lower part and has numerous pinnacles that go in different planes. The main rib and the edges of the leaves are covered by small spines. The inflorescence is pendulous and very long. The flowers are imperfect, the fruits are ovoid and covered with brown scales.
