(Deuterocohnia brevifolia)
Deuterocohnia brevifolia (Synonyms: Abromeitiella brevifolia) is a species of plant in the family Bromeliaceae. This species is native to Argentina and Bolivia, but is also popular as a potted houseplant or ground cover elsewhere. A terrestrial species, it prefers sun or light shade and can grow in large dense mats of leaves given proper conditions. Deuterocohnia is a genus of plants in the family Bromeliaceae, subfamily Pitcairnioideae, endemic to South America. The genus is named for Ferdinand Julius Cohn, Jewish botanist and bacteriologist. Plants once described as belonging to the genus Abromeitiella have been reevaluated and reclassified within Deuterocohnia following modern DNA analysis.
