Orthophytum saxicola is a plant species in the genus Orthophytum. The bromeliad is endemic to the Atlantic Forest biome (Mata Atlantica Brasileira) in Bahia state, located in southeastern Brazil. Orthophytum is a genus in the plant family Bromeliaceae, subfamily Bromelioideae.All the species of the bromeliad genus are endemic to the Atlantic Forest biome (Mata Atlantica Brasileira), located in southeast Brazil. Species are found in the Brazilian states of Alagoas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, and/or Pernambuco.Due to recent advances in technology and DNA testing many of the original Orthophytum species and cultivars have been reclassified under new genera.
