Description

Escobaria chihuahuensis, is an endemic speciesof biznaga belonging to the Cactaceae familythat is distributed in Chihuahua in Mexico. The epithet chihuahuensis refers to the range of the species. It grows solitary and sometimes in groups, with globose to cylindrical stems, 20 cm high and 8 cm in diameter. Its tubers are small and hidden by thorns. It has numerous radial spines 4 to 8 mm long and 5 to 10 central spines 10 mm long, the latter thicker of black or brown color. The flower is small, 2 cm in diameter with white stigmas. The fruit that it produces is elongated, green or reddish, 10 mm long and 7 mm wide. It is distributed in Chihuahua in Mexico, the henricksonii subspecies is exclusive to the Escalón locality, in the Jiménez municipality. It lives in xerophilous bushes on limestone soils.
