Stenocactus crispatus

Description

Stenocactus crispatus is a species in the genus Stenocactus of the cactus family(Cactaceae). The epithet of the species derives from the Latin adjective crispus for 'curled'. Stenocactus crispatus is a taxonomically difficult species as it is very variable in shape depending on site conditions. Stenocactus crispatus grows with depressed globular, yellow-green to dark green shoots and reaches diameters of 8 to 10 centimeters. The 25 to 60 more or less wavy folded ribs are a bit humped. The color and number of straight, stiff and unequal length thorns is very variable. Their color is white to yellow or brown. The one to four center spines will be between 10 and 65 millimeters long. The 2 to 10 edge thorns reach lengths between 4 and 28 millimeters.
