The erennial rhizomatous sedge typically grows to a height of 0.2 to 0.8 metres 0.7 to 2.6 ft and produces brown flowers In Western Australia it is found in swamps and around creeks and pools the Mid West, Pilbara and Goldfields-Esperance regions where it grows in sandy-clay soils
