Leucas abyssinica

Description

Shrublet or subshrub, 0.4�2.5 m tall; young stems hairy with recurved hairs. Leaves sessile or subsessile; blade linear to narrowly obovate, up to 18�50 � 3�12 mm, 1.6�8 times as long as wide, often convolute, apex rounded or subacute, margin entire or with up to 2 teeth at each side (in Somalia). Verticillasters many, spaced or above crowded; cymes 1�7(�13)-flowered; bracteoles subulate or narrowly linear, 1�6 mm long; pedicels 1�3 mm long. Fruiting calyx 5�10-lobed, � zygomorphic, 3.5�8 mm long at the dorsal side, 4�8.5 mm long at the ventral side; 5 principal lobes equal or subequal, 2�3 mm long, additional lobes smaller. Corolla 9�16 mm long; lower lip � as long as the upper lip. Style-branches very unequal (in Somalia). Nutlets sharply trigonous, 1.8�2.5 � 0.9�1.3 mm, apex truncate, rugose and with sessile glands and often also with short eglandular hairs.
