Description

Pinguicula heterophylla is a species of plant in the family Lentibulariaceae. Perennial herbaceous plant, not stoloniferous. Dimorphic leaves, with more than 100 leaves 1 to 2.8 cm long, 1.0 to 3.0 mm wide, fleshy, smooth, circinate growth (which is coiled from the apex to the base). scapes (unbranched stem, without node or leaves, bearing flowers at its apex) from 1 to 4, 10 to 15.0 cm long, more abundant towards the apex. Flowers 2 to 2.4 cm long, including the spur ; calyx with 3-lobed upper lip; corollacolor, violaceous-purple, violaceous or white, tube 6 to 8.5 mm long, 3 to 5.0 mm wide, semicircular, with long and irregularly capitate hairs, spur 3 to 6.0 mm long, semicircular, rounded or acute, suberect or forming a different angle with the tube, green. Capsules 3 to 4.5 mm diameter, subglobose ovate, sparsely glandular pubescent ; seeds numerous, 1 to 1.2 mm long, 0.2 to 0.5 mm wide, fusiform, finely reticulate. It is endemic to Mexico, it is distributed mainly on the Pacific slope, specifically in the states of Guerrero and Oaxaca. So far there are no records of distribution in other parts of the country or outside of it. It is a plant that grows and develops in oak, pine or pine-oak forests, on slopes of igneous rock and granite. It has been found at altitudes of 1,500-2,750 meters above sea level, where the average rainfall is 800 to 100 mm per year, generally from undergrowth in humid places. It is a species that is not under any category of protection in Mexico, according to NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010. It is also not under any IUCN protection category.
