Description

Talauma is the name of a genus of plants from the Magnolia family . Since pedigree research using DNA sequencing has made clearthe relationships within the family Magnoliaceae , the status of Talauma as a gender has become uncertain. Some, mostly Western, authors now place the species from the subfamily Magnolioideae all in one large genus of Magnolia , where Talauma is reducedto a subsection of Magnolia . Other, mainly Chinese, authors divide the subfamily into a large number of small genera, of which Talauma is one, with over 30 species. talauma's are distinguished from the other taxa of the Magnolioideae by the manner in which the adhering berries of the collecting fruit open. With all other Magnolioideae they tear open longitudinally but at Talauma the outer half falls off and the inner part remains attached to the axis of the inflorescence .
