Description

Acianthera bicornuta is a small species of orchid (Orchidaceae) originally from Minas Gerais , Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo , in Brazil , formerly subordinate to the genus Pleurothallis . It is one of the smallest species of its section of Acianthera and has as distinctive characteristics the fact that its inflorescence have up to four tiny flowers simultaneously. The flowers are lightly stained purple and have a more or less triangular lip with four large purple markings on the margins. This species was described by Barbosa Rodrigues twice. Analysis of the original illustrations shows that Lepanthes variegata has more than one white flower on the inflorescence while Lepanthes bicornuta has only one flower, with creamy bottom. Otherwise they are exactly the same species. Although the records do not demonstrate, it has already been found several times in the Serra de São Pedro in São Paulo. The photos are from one of these plants.
