Description

Acrorchis is a monotypic genus of epiphytic orchids. Its only species, Acrorchis roseola, is distributed throughout Costa Rica and Panama. Plant that forms as a bush about 15 cm high. Small magenta flowers, in which the sepals and petals have different shapes and lengths. The base of the lip is white at the edges. The only species in the genus is epiphytic. It develops at heights between 900 and 2,500 meters above sea level. In the wild they are found below the forest canopy in the humid lowlands, protected from direct sunlight. This orchid is very rare as a cultivated one. Acrorchis is a monotypic genus from the orchid family (Orchidaceae), subfamily Epidendroideae, tribe Epidendreae, subtribe Laeliinae. The only species, Acrorchis roseola, is an epiphytic orchid that occurs in Costa Rica and Panama at heights between 900 and 2,500 m. It is clump-forming, magenta orchid, reaching a height of 15 cm. The sepals and petals of its small flowers have distinct lengths and shapes. The base of the lip has a white color on the margins. This orchid is very rare in cultivation.
