Description

Micropyrum is a genus of European and North African plants in the grass family. They are annual plants. Leaves with free margins; ligule membranous, truncated, abraded or denticulada; limbo at the beginning flat, then convolute and filiform. Inflorescence in a spiciform cluster, usually simple. Spikelets laterally compressed, short pedunculated, with 4-16 hermaphrodite flowers; rhachilla glabra or scarab, disarticulating in maturity. Glumas 2, shorter than flowers, unequal, generally sharp, more or less leathery; the lower one with (1-) 3 nerves; the superior with 3-5 nerves.
