Description

Schizachyrium brevifolium is a grass species first described by Olof Swartz , and became known as Lodewijk Hendrik Buse . Schizachyrium brevifolium is included in the genus Schizachyrium and the family grass .  No subspecies are listed in the Catalog of Life . Schizachyrium is a widespread genus of plants in the grass family. The name is derived from the Greek words (schizein), meaning "to split," and (achyron), meaning "chaff." It refers to either the glume or the toothed lemmas. In the United States, members of the genus are commonly known as bluestems.
