Uranthoecium , is a monotypic genus of herbaceous plants of the family Gramineae or Poaceae . 1 Its only species : Uranthoecium truncatum ( Maiden & Betche ) Stapf , is originally from Australia . It is an annual (or short-lived perennial) plant; cespitose with stems 15-50 cm high; herbaceous flattened branched above. Culms with hairy knots. Hollow internodes. Sheet linear sheets; narrow; about 4 mm wide; flat (soft); without venation; persistent. The ligule is a membrane with fringes or a fringe of hairs; 0.75-1.5 mm long. Bisexual plants, with bisexual spikelets; with hermaphrodite flowers
