Description

Mannia ( Grimaldimoose ) is a genus of liverworts from the family Aytoniaceae . The plants are rather small with about 1 to 3 inches long and 1.5 to 4 millimeters wide, bifurcated or heart-shaped lobed Thalli The breathing holes are surrounded by one to three circles of 5 to 8 cells each. The belly scales end with one to three narrow Spitzchen. The bearers of the archegonic lands originate from the thallus tips, have a longitudinal furrow and are often covered with scales at the bottom and at the top. The hemispherical archegonic lands are warty at the top and contain 2 to 4 sporogues. Each spore capsule opens by dropping the top of the capsule wall as a whole. The mosses colonize rock crevices or rocky soil and occur mainly in areas with Mediterranean climate , but also in Arctic regions before.
