Description

Sadleria wagneriana may be distinguished by stipe scales that resemble those of S. souleyetiana, but are much smaller; thickened undersurfaces obscuring the veins, as in S. cyatheoides, and the presence of glands (Palmer 2003). Sadleria wagneriana is assessed as Critically Endangered under criterion B. The taxon is endemic to the island of Kaua'i and has an extent of occurrence of 22 km2. It has experienced severe and ongoing decline in habitat and numbers due to the impacts of invasive plants and animals. Its area of occupancy is 22 km2 and declining. Its distribution is severely fragmented, occurring in only 20 subpopulations in a single locality.
