Aerial footage of bowhead whales in the Canadian Arctic

11-27-2017

Today’s Video of the Day comes from the University of British Columbia and features aerial drone footage of bowhead whales in the Canadian Arctic.

Researchers found that these bowhead whales return to Cumerland Sound in Nunavut each year. They roll on their sides against the large rocks close to shore and lift their tails into the air.

The drone footage revealed large pieces of dead skin peeling away from the whales’ bodies, revealing that they used the rocks to exfoliate.
