Climate change is now a full-blown crisis

07-03-2018

Climate change is now a full-blown crisis Today’s Video of the Day from The Sanders Institute introduces The Climate Crisis, a series aimed at bringing urgent attention to the fact that climate change must now be addressed as a full-blown global emergency.

Bill McKibben is an author, environmentalist, and a founding fellow of The Sanders Institute who hosts the series.

“Scientists have warned us for 30 years that we were changing the climate, and now those predictions are coming true with a vengeance,” says McKibben, who has been writing about the climate crisis for three decades.

According to The Sanders Institute, 97 percent of scientists agree that climate change is happening and that humans are causing it. Climate change is now a full-blown crisis as shown above in the video showing the major affects its taking.

The new series will highlight ways that the climate crisis could still possibly be averted. McKibben says that we must act “collectively, decisively, and fast.” The climate crisis is a crisis of many things: science, economics, politics, immigration. As the author Amitav Ghosh said, “the climate crisis is also a crisis of culture.  “Many of the issues we face in society, including inequity, can benefit from an environmental focus and more sustainable development.
