Meteor flies over active volcano in Costa Rica

01-03-2017

Today’s Video Of The Day comes from Costa Rica, where a meter was captured on camera flying over the active Turrialba volcano. The video shows the small meteor burning up as it passes from left to right over the volcanic path of eruption.

The footage of the meteor was captured by cameras from the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica installed to monitor the Turrialba volcano. The volcano has seen an increase in activity since 2014, including an eruption in September 2016.

The bright meteor was mistaken for a UFO by some who saw the event in person. A similar event occurred early last year at the Colima volcano in Mexico.
