New smart sensors will help detect bridge damage

New smart sensors will help detect bridge damage Today’s Video of the Day from the National Science Foundation describes research from the University of Florida that aims to detect early warning signs when a bridge is in danger of failing due to storm damage.

The team has developed a bridge-mounted smart sensor system, which has been deployed to monitor coastal bridge health in Florida’s low-lying coastal areas.

By analyzing real-time data transmitted directly from the bridges during actual storms, the researchers also hope to identify ways to make these bridges safer.
