Noninvasive test for inflammatory bowel disease

06-27-2019

Today’s Video of the Day from the Physiological Society & Medical University of Warsaw describes a noninvasive way to test for conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

In 2015, 250,000 people in the UK and 3 million in the United States were diagnosed with IBD. The symptoms include stomach pain and swelling, bloody diarrhea, weight loss, and extreme fatigue.

In those with IBD and other intestinal diseases, the intestinal wall allows more bacterial products to pass from the gut into the blood. The test measures he amount of these bacteria in the blood and stool.
