Not everything mixes well with birth control Today’s Video of the Day from the American Chemical Society describes common products that may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control.

Most types of birth control are hormone-based, and there are many things that do not mix well with hormones.

While some substances simply increase the risk of getting pregnant, others can cause very dangerous side effects when combined with birth control.  A detox tea called Bootea was recently attacked by women who claimed that their products were causing their contraceptive pills not to work.

Along with detox tea, make sure you also avoid any diet tablets as they’re also laxatives. 9. There is one important exception: anti-tuberculosis drug rifampin. Rifampin lowers birth control pill effectiveness by decreasing the hormone levels in women who are on the Pill.
