Satellites are changing the way we view the Earth Satellites are changing the way we view the Earth Today’s Video of the Day from the European Space Agency demonstrates how the satellite era is revolutionizing the way that we monitor and understand our remarkably dynamic planet.

According to the ESA, starting with the top left, these globes represent land cover with ocean color data, significant wave height, regional mean sea-level trends, sea-surface temperature, magnetic field variations, the NASA blue marble, global urban footprint, gravity geoid, ocean currents, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and fire hotspots. As seen above are the Satellites that are changing the way we view the Earth.

All satellites are launched to space and into their orbit byhitching a ride on a rocket or on the Space Shuttle, where they are placed inside the cargo bay. There are also countries and large corporations that have their own rocket launch facilities, so they can easily send their own satellites into orbit. A satellite is an artificial object that is deliberately sent into orbit in space, usually in order to send, receive or bounce back information to different areas of Earth.
