Description

The huasteca paton horse (Paraphlebia zoe) is a devil's horse of the Thaumatoneuridae family.It is endemic to Mexico from mountain areas in the state of Veracruz.and is by far the most colorful and best-known species of the genus Paraphlebia.It is strongly threatened by habitat loss.The coloration of this species is mainly black with light yellow areas.Head: mainly black with light spots on the forehead,metallic blue labrum.Thorax: mainly black with clear lines in the humeral,intrapleural and metapleural suture.Legs.yellow with black spots on the outer surface of the femurs.Abdomen: mainly black with yellow basal rings in segments 3-7 and a mid-yellow line in segments 7-8.Wings: hyaline or with black pigeminating,the latter with a black apical band with metallic blue reflections and a whitish patch proximal to the black band.Measurements: abdomen ≈45-47 mm;rear wing ≈ 39-44 mm.
