(Acrocephalus stentoreus)

Description

The reed warbler is a large reed warbler that can reach between 18-20 cm.The adult has a brown back without stripes, and the lower parts of light color. His forehead is flattened, and his beak is sharp and pointed. Both sexes are identical, like the majorities of the reed warblers. It is very similar to the reed warbler, but that species has more intense colors in the lower parts. The different subspecies differ in plumage tonality. The north migratory north breed shows more intense brown tones, and the endemic subspecies of Sri Lanka has a darker shade.Like all warblers,it is insectivorous, but it does not discard other small prey. The song is high and prolonged, but less strident than the reed warbler. It's a slow, chattering kereet-kereet-kereet with the typical whistles of acrocephaline and some mimicry.
