Description

The Baikal teal (Anas formosa) is a surface duck in the northeast of Asia.It is also called Asian teal. With a length between 39 and 43 cm and a weight of 360-520 grams, this duck is slightly larger and has a longer tail than the common teal. The male's wedding dress is unmistakable, with its impressive green, yellow and black head and its vertical white line on the sides of the chest.Even the females have the color of the head well distinguishable, with a small but prominent white spot at the base of the beak and a dark strip behind the eye. Some "females" have "bridles" on their faces, but it has been suggested that some of these "females" harnessed,if not all,are in fact young males. The young have a plumagesimilar to that of the female, and can be distinguished from those of the common teal for the pale spot at the base of the beak.In the non-reproductive (eclipsed) plumage, the male has an appearance similar to that of the female, but the plumage takes on a more reddish hue.
