Description

The mountain Anoa (Bubalus quarlesi Ouwens,1910) is a bovine endemic to the Sulawesi mountains.The body is roundish with short and slender legs.The fur is dense and woolly,but in mature individuals it can thin out,but never reach the conditions as in the anus of the plain.The color varies from dark brown to black,the males are generally darker.The legs are blackish-brown throughout their length.Small spots are frequently present above and in front of the hooves,but they are often difficult to observe.The inguinal region is clearer than the rest of the body.The tail is relatively short,around 14.6 to 17.8% of the total length.The ears are small and narrow.Both sexes have a pair of straight,smooth and conical horns,with a round section,between 14.6 and 19.9 cm long.
