Description

The ladybird of Puerto Rico or captain (Agelaius xanthomus) is an endemic bird of the archipelago of Puerto Rico that belongs to the Icteridae family.It is in danger of extinction due to the destruction of its natural habitat,the parasitism of laying by the common thrush (Molothrus bonariensis) and the action of various predators such as mongooses and rats.It is the symbolic bird of the City of Cabo Rojo.The plumage is black and has characteristic yellow spots on the shoulders.The beak is sharp and black.Adult individuals measure between 20 and 23 cm.
