Description

The flying fox golden head (Acerodon jubatus Eschscholtz,1831) is a bat belongs to the family of Pteropodidi,popular in the Archipelago of the Philippines.Dimensions: Large bat,with the total length between 255 and 310 mm,the length of the forearm between 165 and 215 mm,the length of the ears between 31 and 41 mm,a wingspan up to 1.7 m and a weight up to 1.25 kg.It is considered among the species of the largest bats in the world.Appearance: The fur is short.The general color of the body is brownish-blackish,with the ventral parts densely covered with yellowish hairs.The shoulders are hazel.The head and the nape are yellowish,strongly in contrast with the rest of the fur.The snout is blackish,long and tapered,the eyes are big.The ears are long and wide,softened towards the rounded end.The wing membranes range from brown to dark brown and are spotted with lighter irregular spots.The tibia is covered with hair only in the first dorsal half.The thumb is unusually longer than the other species of the genus.It is devoid of tail,while the uropatagioit is reduced to a thin membrane along the inside of the lower limbs and is densely covered with hairs in its central part.The Aj mindanensis subspecies is the largest.
