Arctic sea ice flushed into the Nares Strait

06-16-2017

Today’s Video of the Day comes thanks to ESA and features a look at old Arctic sea ice being flushed away into the Nares Strait.

Most years, an ice arch in the Lincoln Sea holds back the older, heavier sea ice from melting away. But this year, the arch broke up earlier than usual, causing a current to flush the older sea ice into the channel.
