Astronauts explore caves for scientific discovery

Astronauts explore caves for scientific discovery Today’s Video of the Day from the European Space Agency describes a project known as the Cooperative Adventure for Valuing and Exercising human behavior and performance Skills (CAVES).

Astronauts descend into untouched worlds as they explore caves, which can provide them with valuable scientific evidence.

The 2019 CAVES team is training at the Divaška cave in Slovenia to identify signs of life that have adapted to the extremes. The team is particularly interested in specific environmental parameters, including water and air quality.

The cave exploration project will also help to prepare the astronauts for working in an environment where safety is critical.
