Chongqing in southwest-central China Today’s Video of the Day from the European Space Agency features Chongqing, the largest municipality in China. The district spans an area of over 80,000 square kilometers, which is about the size of Austria.

The city of Chongqing is located at the intersection of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, and is surrounded by mountains. These include the Daba Mountains in the north, the Wu Mountains in the east, the Wuling Mountains in the southeast, and the Dalou Mountains in the south.

According to ESA, Chongqing is a major manufacturing and transportation center, and has become the biggest automobile manufacturing base in China. Central China is now officially part of South Central China governed by the People’s Republic of China. Also is known for the Rise of Central China Plan by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China in 2004, surrounding provinces including Shanxi, Anhui, are also defined as regions of Central China development zones.
