Gaia mission has documented 1.7 billion stars

08-27-2018

Today’s Video of the Day from the European Space Agency describes the Gaia mission, which was launched in 2014.

The Sun is only one of 100 billion stars in our galaxy. The second data release of the Gaia mission has documented the brightness and position of more than 1.7 billion of those stars.

Gaia has also observed over 14,000 space objects, which are mainly asteroids.
