The NASA IMERG video charts rainfall from September 17 through September 21, 2017, finding that most areas within Maria’s path saw at least 10 inches. The IMERG data estimated at least 20 inches of rain fell over most of Puerto Rico.

Hurricane Maria is thrashing the Caribbean. Hurricane Maria ripped through Puerto Rico on Wednesday, making landfall as a powerful Category 4 storm with 155-mph winds, according to the National Hurricane Center.

It left 100% of the island without power. After hitting the Caribbean nation of Dominica last night, the Category 5 Hurricane Maria is now headed toward Puerto Rico and the US and British Virgin Islands. The combined effect of the surge and tide produced maximum inundation levels of 6 to 9 ft above ground level to the north of Maria’s landfall along the coasts of Humacao, Naguabo, and Ceiba municipalities in Puerto Rico.
