Improving hurricane forecasts by studying past storms

09-04-2017

Today’s Video of the Day comes from NASA Goddard and features a look at how scientists are improving hurricane forecasts by studying past storms.

Researchers are using what are called ensemble forecasts, where instead of tracking one storm trajectory, they make slight variations to its path. Running ensemble forecasts allows scientists to account for the various factors of uncertainty involved in forecasting hurricanes and tropical storms.
