Kyoto and Osaka from space

10-27-2018

Today’s Video of the Day from the European Space Agency features Kyoto and Osaka as they appear from space.

While Kyoto and Osaka are two of the largest cities in Japan, the populations of these regions pale in comparison to that of Japan’s capital city. With a population of around 38 million, Tokyo is the largest megacity in the world.

Kyoto is widely regarded as the cultural capital of Japan, while Osaka draws visitors to its multicultural food scene.

The striking false-color image explored in the video was captured on May 11, 2018 by the Copernicus Sentinel-2B satellite.
