Landsat data will help protect the Yuma Ridgway’s rail

11-19-2020

Today’s Video of the Day from NASA Goddard describes how Landsat satellite data can be used to support wildlife conservation.

Researchers at the University of Idaho have combined their own findings from extensive field studies with Landsat data to help protect the Yuma Ridgway’s rail, an endangered marsh bird species.

The team has developed a habitat suitability model that will provide land managers with relevant information on dynamic environmental conditions.

The model will support land managers in making the best decisions to help protect  Yuma Ridgway’s rail on a year to year basis.
