Today’s Video of the Day from NASA Science News describes the powerful force of Earth’s magnetosphere, which protects us from the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation.
According to Eftyhia Zesta of the Geospace Physics Laboratory at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, “The Earth’s magnetosphere absorbs the incoming energy from the solar wind, and explosively releases that energy in the form of geomagnetic storms and substorms.”
NASA’s Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission (MMS) was launched in 2015 to help scientists better predict the weather in space and understand how the magnetosphere can affect Earth’s technology.
