Why does the Moon smell like gunpowder?

Today’s Video of the Day from the American Chemical Society (ACS) describes why the dust that astronauts brought home from the Moon smelled like spent gunpowder. 

According to the ACS, there must be some chemical process that caused smell molecules associated with combustion reactions or explosion-related events to reach the astronauts’ noses.
