It is an unpigmented troglobite with no eyes, reaching a maximum length of 0.7 inches. The only member of the genus Antrolana, the Madison Cave isopod, A. lira, is a white, shrimp-like crustacean lacking eyes. This cave-adapted (troglobitic) isopod grows up to 0.4 in (1.02 cm) in length, making it among the longer, and the largest, subterranean isopods in the eastern United States. Females are slightly larger than males. The body is flattened, compact, and approximately three times longer than it is broad.
