Apache prisoners - Earth.com Apache prisoners

The Apache in this 1886 photograph are prisoners of the U.S. government, although they’ve been allowed off their railroad carriage for a rest break as they journey towards a reservation in Florida. One of their number – third from the right in the front row – is the legendary chief Geronimo. Another is his son, who is seen here on his father’s left. The older man had finally surrendered just a few days before this photograph was taken. Photo Credit: Corbis via Getty Images
