Helplessly, he watched as the baby cubs struggled to keep their heads above water. Now that their mother had gone far away, she could not help them. And he was nothing more than an ordinary fisherman who, by chance, happened to be observing this horrible tragedy. This sort of event, he reasoned, probably happens all the time in nature. But when he heard the cubs’ terrifying cries, he knew he had to intervene. He looked to his companion and began to develop a strategy.
